The Núcleo Ecológico de Pipa (NEP, the Ecological Nucleus of Pipa) was formally created on the 27th of January 1999. A group of local residents, anxious about the disorganised growth of Pipa, met in order to find alternative methods to sustain the development of the region. At this moment, NEP is working towards partnerships with both public and private sectors to promote environmental education through events, courses, workshops, lectures and campaigns.
During “Environment Week”,(in June) the community will have an opportunity to debate topics such as the separation of waste materials for recycling, the Atlantic Forest, water resources, Conservation Areas, flora and fauna… to name just a few. Tibau do Sul's students have been targeted with diverse activities (competitions, games, workshops, exhibitions, video shows, tours, planting of seedlings, joint initiatives, etc, etc, etc). |
